This month Clarence Climate Action is highlighting Glebe Hill Village shopping centre as our latest Climate Champions for their inclusion of a range of sustainable technologies designed to reduce energy and water consumption as well as greenhouse gas emissions.
Glebe Hill Village gets green tick from Clarence Climate Action
Glebe Hill Village is probably the most environmentally sustainable shopping centre in Tasmania with a full solar array, EV charging stations, air quality monitors, water recycling, smart water and gas meters, a weather station and smart bathrooms that monitor and precisely control water usage of every tap, toilet and pan.
Patrycja Bukowska, Marketing Manager at Glebe Hill Village commented that “we are very proud of the environmental initiatives we have introduced at Glebe Hill Village and the impact they are having on our customer experience and the environment and as an example, in our first year of operations alone, we saved over 23,000 litres (23 kL) of water through our smart bathrooms use of precise shut-off taps and half flush toilets.”
The centre also features a robust 100 kW solar array, generating enough energy to offset its air conditioning, lighting, and heating usage. During summer, it produces double the required energy, while in winter, it covers about 40% of the mall’s usage. This is helped by an advanced metering and monitoring system to track energy efficiency through a comprehensive building information dashboard.
Glebe Hill Village sets a positive example of how modern developments can take initiatives to reduce their contributions to climate change. To meet global targets, sustainable practices such as these should be the standard for future developments, and we hope other projects adopt similar measures.
